Bernadette L. Peters, born Bernadette A. Lazzara in Ozone Park Queens New York on February 28, 1948, is a songwriter/singer and an author of children's books. In a five-decade career, she has appeared in television and musicals along with solo shows as well as recorded recordings. She's won seven Tony Awards nominations, two of which she was awarded along with the other eight Drama Desk Awards. Grammy Awards have been won by four Broadway cast recordings that Peters' role was featured on. Peters began her career in acting performing on stage during the 1960s when she was a teenager, and later during the 1970s she appeared on television and in film. Her early performances, appearances on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show in addition to appearances for other television shows and films were well-received. Also, she was praised for roles she played in films like Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven or Annie. The year was 1980 when she started returning to Broadway and was one of the top performers of that stage for the following three decades.
