Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal called the West Island. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to be an actor, However, following a dramatic growth spurt her partners could no longer dance along with her. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. The Brugel is one of the former dancers that turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her to take the next step. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Through the years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the role in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian actor in Season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
